Bill Townsend

William John Townsend,  PhD, MBA
July 27, 1944 - December 13, 2012

In 18 short days the world changed for Bill and his family. With a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer he barely had time to prepare his family for the idea of a future without him.

Bill will truly be missed by his family, friends and his club family. He was an Associate member for about two years, but it seemed like many more. He was a very friendly, happy guy who was always ready and willing to be there for the club and it's members.

Bill had been an Associate Member of the club since March 2010. His club car was a beautiful 1928 Ford Model A Touring (Phaeton).

Bill also has a 1927 Ford Model T Roadster, a 1928 Ford Model A Tudor and a 1954 Ford F100 Pickup. He's also a member of the British Columbia Hot Rod Association and Totem Model A & T Ford Club.

As love is sweeter the second time round, Bill and Dianne still consider themselves to be honeymooners. Between them they have four daughters, one son-in law and two grand-sons.

Both Bill and Diane are newly retired. While cars are their primary focus, they love being able to tow their 1977 Trillium trailer behind one of the hot rods and camp at various rod runs they attend. At home gardening is more of a hobby than a chore and any spare time they can find for fishing or golf gives them a very full life. Since they are both retired now, they are fitting in as much travel as they can.

Bill was excited being an associate member of the Club. As a teenager in the '50s and '60s, he occasionally purchased Hot Rod Magazine featuring cars and activities involving the L. A. Roadsters. He often thought, in those early years of building cars, that he would somehow like to be involved with such a group. Now, 50 years later, that dream has come true.

What it means to be a member of the L. A. Roadsters:  I look forward to my association with the Club as a Canadian Ambassador and getting to know the members through my involvement working at the Father's Day Roadster Show and various rod runs. It's a dream come true being an associate member of the Club.
